The Party Lasted for DAYS! - Day 1

Well, we survived the big birthday. Sophia is the big 5 years old! Here are some highlights
from her birthday celebration.

Sophia woke to a decorated room, complete with a banner and streamers.

We then gathered at the Spaghetti Factory, Sophia's favorite restaurant, for a birthday dinner

And the day ended with a Princess Cake. I don't usually bake, so this was a huge accomplishment for me. Funny story: as I lit the candles on the cake, the doll's hair caught on fire. We frantically blew out the candles and doll. Luckily, the cake was still edible.
Overall, it was a great Birthday Day.

A Note From the Teacher: OH NO? OH YES!

Every parent (I think) dreads the note home from the teacher. Here is the note Sophia handed me on Friday.

Sophia,

You did a great job as "Teacher of the day!" I like the way you always pay attention in class. You do a great job participating too! I really like how you get your work done quickly and quietly!

Great Job!
Ms. Willow

So far, Kindergarten is agreeing with Sophia.

It's Been a Hard Day

Even though it's been a hard day, and all I want to do is take a nap, my kids make me smile. Sophia is busy drawing Seth and I pictures and practicing her writing. Chloe is roaming around the house, occasionally stoping to give Sophia a hug or to show me which pair of Sophia's shoes she's wearing.

I love Sophia.

I love Chloe.

Lemony Goodness

We celebrated Seth's birthday with lemon cake with homemade lemon frosting. YUMMY!
Lots of laughs and fun. Happy Birthday Seth!

Watch out David Lubin - here she comes!

September 8, 2009. What a day. There were some tears (mostly from me), but we survived.

Sophia Pearl Oberst started kindergarten at David Lubin in Ms. Willow's class in room K1!

So far, so good. Here's a brief summary from the 1st week at school.

1. There isn't enough time to eat lunch AND goof off

2. There is a girl in class who fell asleep

3. Sophia was a "helper" and cleaned the art table

4. Math is the favorite part of the day (yeah!)

5. The worksheets are fun, but too easy (says Sophia)

6. Sophia is practicing writing her name in lowercase

7. The game they play in class isn't much fun

8. Sophia's pencil box is too small

9. There is only 1 recess

10. Per Sophia, Ms. Willow has red streaked hair (not pink as I mistakenly thought)

Most importantly, Sophia is having fun.

And they came

Today I took the girls to feed the ducks at McKinley Park. Usually the ducks are overfed and don't pay much attention to the food. However, today they came...and came some more. We couldn't keep up. Every O and bread crumb was gobbled up quickly. Chloe didn't stop squealing with delight even when one pecked at her feet. Too much fun.

Paddle, Paddle, Kick, Kick

We couldn't keep her on the bench any longer. Chloe is now a YMCA member enrolled in Parent-Child swim class! She has been in the water several times (and has enjoyed it), and has watched Sophia's swim class for her entire life. However, on Chloe's 1st official day in swim class, she cried. She cried almost the entire session. Poor Chloe. Poor Seth. Poor everyone there enduring Chloe's screams.
